Early 20th century, in the Ughetto family's home village, Ughettera, Northern Italy. Life in the region had become very difficult and the Ughettos dreamed of a better life abroad. Legend has it that Luigi Ughetto crossed the Alps and started a new life in France, thus changing his beloved family's destiny forever. His grandson retraces their story.

Jeanne is taken by a group of resistance fighters to the place of her execution. During this journey to death, she reflects on the capricious destiny that led her there. From her childhood in her parents' butcher's shop at the dawn of the 20th century, to the years of wandering in Paris, her encounter with the intrepid Céleste, then her reunion with Guillaume de Barante, her adventures in the war, in Brazil or during the Roaring Twenties, to her fulfilled dream of becoming a countess. Jeanne has crossed the century like a long flight forward that is inexorably leading her towards her fall.

In 1910, following dramatic circumstances that led to the death of her two parents, Rose and her grandfather Hoffman find themselves trapped in a remote shack, far from the civilized world, where they must struggle for survival. Despite being only twelve years old, Rose quickly realizes that Hoffman, overwhelmed, no longer has the physical and moral resources to react, and it is up to her to find a way out. When two marmots that had escaped capture allow themselves to be tamed, Rose decides to go down to the town to present her musical act as a marmot trainer. When she returns with pockets full, Hoffman and she will go back to the world to write a new chapter in their lives.

C and B are twin cats who live in a rundown harbour town, inhabited by downtrodden birds who, under the yoke of an oppressive and silencing power, have lost the ability to sing or fly. C is a restless dreamer and B is a pragmatic thinker, but both are determined to change their destiny and save the town. Dom Fradique unravels the adventures of these twin cats who, although choosing distinct paths, embody the transformation of both the place they inhabit as well as their own selves, echoing present day themes that unsettle younger generations and the challenges they face, on a social, ecological and political level. What they discover will change them, their lives, and their town forever.
