The Secret Theatre features the choreography of Scottish Ballet founder Peter Darrell and CEO/Artistic Director Christopher Hampson, co-directed for the screen by Jess & Morgs. With set and costumes designed by Lez Brotherston; music by Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky recorded live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra; new additional composition by Frank Moon; and performances from the full Scottish Ballet company; this Christmas special is an unforgettable adventure for all the family.

The lake is a pool of light. The strong, graceful Odette captivates us, surrounded by arching backs, spiralling arms and mesmerising formations. David Dawson’s daring, visceral choreography from Swan Lake is perfectly paired with the rich, romantic Tchaikovsky score in this short film, The Swan, directed by Eve McConnachie. With an all-female cast led by Constance Devernay-Laurence, The Swan is a powerful showcase of our dancers’ strength and connectivity.

An abstract dining room is the setting for Scottish Ballet’s largest film yet. Tremble stars 26 Scottish Ballet dancers and has been co-choreographed and directed by Jessica Wright and Morgann Runacre-Temple, set to Anna Meredith’s brassy track ‘Nautilus’.

A striking and creative celebration of French artist Yves Klein and what has become the world's most famous shade of blue. Directed by Oscar Sansom and produced by Scottish Ballet and Forest Of Black the film is surreal, surprising and bursting with ideas. Sophie Laplane's distinct, quirky choreography paired with Sansom's striking visuals create a film that brings together the very best of both mediums in a piece that is a true joy to watch.

Choreographed by Scottish Ballet Soloist Nicholas Shoesmith (Catalyst, The Fates) and directed by Ciaran Lyons, this high-octane short film takes viewers on a journey through a game-like landscape inhabited by otherworldly beings, where the real and virtual collide.

Frontiers questions traditional gendered roles in classical ballet by refusing to adhere to dated stereotypes: women powerfully command the space, men intimately embrace each other. Frontiers contrasts the fluidity of the human form with the brutalist concrete motorways that cut through the heart of Glasgow.

The Shimmering Extraordinary, created by Emmy Award-nominated director Fx Goby, is a collaboration between Scottish Ballet and Nexus Studios. Commissioned as part of our Safe to Be Me™ Festival 2021, a digital festival of dance that celebrates diversity, the films are inspired by the programme’s themes of acceptance, identity, and respect.

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale The Ice Maiden, The Fairy's Kiss tells the story of a boy cursed with a kiss, destined for immortality.

In 1960, American dancer and actor Gene Kelly created for the Paris Opera Ballet an original choreography that was highly acclaimed at the time, yet rarely performed thereafter; a genius work that the Scottish Ballet, accompanied by the stirring and evocative score by composer and pianist George Gershwin, epitome of orchestral jazz, brings back to life sixty years later.

Choreographer Sophie Laplane was commissioned to create a work in a week, as part of Scottish Ballet’s 2019 Digital Season. Each day of the creation process was live-streamed to Facebook, and the final product has been turned into a short film directed by Eve McConnachie.

Filmed in Scottish Ballet’s technical workshop during the Covid-19 lockdown, Trace is a short film commissioned for the 2020 Edinburgh International Festival. This touching duet was first performed live by the company at Dance Odysseys, a series of works presented by Scottish Ballet and Gelabert Azzopardi Companyia de Dansa during the 2013 Edinburgh International Festival.

Scottish Ballet’s first-ever Digital Artist in Residence, Zachary Eastwood-Bloom, built on his visually sublime arsenal of digital artworks by working with three choreographers and composers to create Technology//Mythology//Allegory – a series of three new works – for the 2019 Digital Season. Beauty, artifice, voyeurism and the digital gaze are questioned in The Three Graces, a highly manipulated and multi-layered collaboration between Zachary Eastwood-Bloom and choreographer Madeline Squire.

With 28 doors and 36 dancers, Indoors is a playful work by Sophie Laplane, set to Mozart’s ‘Papageno, Papagena’. Rehearsed via Zoom and recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown, this short film explores ways we can open our doors to new possibilities, all in Laplane’s distinctly unique style.

Scottish Ballet's first ever Digital Artist in Residence, Zachary Eastwood-Bloom, builds on his visually innovative collection of works, collaborating with three choreographers and composers to create Technology//Mythology//Allegory - a series of three new works under The Fates. Motion tracked and digitally augmented, The Fates is a collaboration between Zachary Eastwood-Bloom, choreographer Nicholas Shoesmith and composer Ben Chatwin. The Fates explores notions of autonomy and control in a digital society.

Scottish Ballet’s Prometheus & Epimetheus investigates the relationship between technology and our inability to see far enough into the future as we continue to advance. Motion captured and digitally augmented, Prometheus & Epimetheus is a collaboration between the first ever Digital Artist in Residence Zachary Eastwood-Bloom and choreographer Alexander Whitley with music by Ash Koosha.
