Inés, a Spanish artist, lives in India and stumbles upon Sultana's Dream, a science fiction story written by Rokeya Hossain in 1905. It describes Ladyland, a utopia in which women rule the country while men live in seclusion and are responsible for household chores. Fascinated by the story Inés embarks on a journey across the country to search for the one place where women can live in peace.

Bonifacio is a clumsy and shoddy countryman. After losing everything, he travels to the city with his little daughter Hilda and their piggie Tulipán, to chase his dream, everyone has a calling and his is the best one: being a truck driver.

In Ahmedabad, Isabel gives an animation workshop on Mehndi design to a group of temporary tattoo artists. She asks them about their dreams: Ramia would love to fly, Saadiya dreams of an all-woman parliament, Shubhashree longs to travel to Switzerland, and Samira voices her independence through rap.

Inés and her grandmother Esperanza have always had a special relationship, but she waited until she turned thirty to ask her to tell her about her youth. Her grandmother opens the box of memories, determined to share details of her life that she had never shared before. The photographs from the family archive come to life with the rhythm of the songs hummed by her grandmother. The lyrics of "Batallón de modistillas," a cuplé from the late 19th century, set Inés's heart on fire and she begins to search.

A small community enters a state of collapse due to an environmental crisis and is adapting as best it can to the new reality. The privileged residents live a hedonistic life based on carpe diem, while the others struggle to survive with no alternative.
