In the mid-1960s, a respected surgeon dreams of leaving Poland to see his wife and daughter in England. To get the money for his escape, he needs to consider taking part in a bank robbery.

The action of the series takes place in the years from 1945 to 1956. The next parts present the fate of three friends - an intellectual, a worker, and a peasant - whose youth fell in the first years of post-war Poland. Despite different origins, different motivations, and their doubts, Kazimierz, Piotr, and Daniel engage in the activities of the Polish Youth Union, contributing to the foundations of the Polish People’s System. However, the friends face the resistance of society, duplicity, and the overzealousness of party comrades, and finally, their own disappointment.

The story of the residents of a tenement house on Złota Street in Warsaw from 1945 to 1980.

The Emergency Exit

A provincial town in the early 1980s. Among its residents is the Kolęda family. Mrs. Kolęda is an energetic community leader, her husband, a gentle soul, takes care of raising ducks and cultivating flowers in "tunnels" at home. Their daughter, Dorota, is a pretty and unemployed young woman. The intrigue begins when the community leader finds out that she is going to become a grandmother. Fear of losing authority, scandal, and embarrassment inspires her to come up with a truly diabolical idea - they need to buy a fiancé for Dorota with a pre-arranged divorce.

The film presents the story of Robert - an aging, once-recognized artist who is today struggling with his own complexes and vices, and helplessness towards a new reality that ruthlessly throws him to the margins of existence. One day Robert finds himself in a roadside ditch hit by a dog's car. In a reflex of spontaneous compassion, he takes the dog home and begins to look after him.
