Biography
Chitnahalli Guru Dutt or Guru Dutt is an Indian actor and director primarily concentrating on Kannada and Tamil feature films. He debuted along with Shivrajkumar in the 1986 blockbuster Anand. He was launched in Tamil by K. Balachander with the 1989 smash hit Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal. He has acted in more than 100 films. His major Tamil appearance was opposite Kamal Haasan in musical Kalaignan as the psychopath doctor. He is the son of Chi. Udaya Shankar.

Shabdavedhi
Shabdavedi is about Sandeep Rajkumar, a strict police officer crusading against narcotics. The man is so straight that when his wife Jaya Prada refuses to reveal the identity of a key link in the drug ring that he is investigating. He beats her in lockup. Eventually he overcomes all the usual attempts to throw him off the chase like tarnishing his reputation and implicating him in lock-up death cases and tracks the ring down to its last man.

Kalaignan
Pop singer Inderjeet is the main suspect after his female fans are killed by a serial killer. Divya, whose sister was a dancer in his troupe and the first target, comes to the city to find the killer.

Gimmick
A happy-go-lucky poor guy Gani falls in love with wrestler Raani, who hails from a rich family. Raani's father tries every trick in the book to separate Raani and Gani. When nothing works, he comes up with a plan that he is sure will not let him down.

Samyuktha
A young man falls in love with a girl and will go to any extent to prove his love for her. However, things take a turn when he is challenged to stay in a haunted house. This was the 6th movie of Shivarajkumar as a lead hero. The movie is based on the novel Samyuktha authored by Kakolu Saroja Rao. Originally, the movie was supposed to star Chi Gurudutt and Balaraj in lead roles, however, Shivarajkumar was later brought on board as one of the leads of the movie to garner recognition amongst the audience. The soundtracks for the movie were composed by director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and background score was composed by Shankar-Ganesh. This was also the first horror thriller movie of Shivarajkumar.

Inspector Vikram
Vikram aka Inspector Vikram is a happy-go-lucky cop, who has no problem getting himself into trouble with his superiors, especially the police commissioner Chandrashekhar. Although accepted as a brilliant mind with a sharp intellect to solve crimes, he is often chided for his immature, casanova-personality. During the course of time, Vikram courts many brickbats and transfers in his career. He serves in the traffic department as well as the Law and order department. However, when an inmate Raja escapes from prison, Vikram is called back in to track him down. The movie was produced by Raghavendra Rajkumar, the younger brother of Shivarajkumar under Nikileshwari Cine Combines. The core plot of the movie was inspired by Eddie Macon's - RUN. The music was composed by Vijay Anand and this was the first Kannada feature film in which AR Rahman worked as a Music Arranger.
