Biography
Fien de la Mar (1895-1965), born Josephina Johanna de la Mar, was a Dutch actress, singer and comedienne. She is considered one of the biggest divas in Dutch theatre and film history. The DelaMar theatre in Amsterdam was built especially for her by her husband, architect Piet Grossouw. She died in 1965 after jumping out of her window, her second suicide attempt.

Janus Fortuin is a goodhearted piano tuner married to a greedy landlady. Their daughter Polly is engaged to young songwriter George van Reen. When rich uncle Barend from Batavia makes a surprise visit — pretending to be a lodger called 'Van Santen' — the Fortuin family finds their lives turned upside down.

The Dutch Cabaret Album
Compilation of cabaret songs and sketches. Louis Davids sings and acts with Sylvain Poons, Fien de la Mar and Heintje Davids, among others. The film includes such numbers as ‘Naar de Artis’, ‘De volkstuinkoningin’, ‘De draaiende Venus’ and ‘Hollands Hollywood’. Every song was subtitled so that audiences could sing along.

The Ghost Train
A group of travelers find themselves stranded for the night at a deserted train station, which according to the old stationmaster, has been haunted for the last 20 years.

The Tars
After serving in the Royal Navy, Manus, Toon and Dries return to Amsterdam working-class quarter 'the Jordaan'. On his wedding day, mere hours before the statute of limitations for his crimes expires, revengeful mobsters abduct former criminal Jean Verdier. The gang leader's daughter - who's still in love with Jean - tries to stall the police until the clock strikes twelve and he can no longer be prosecuted.

Bleeke Bet
In 1930s Amsterdam, greengrocer Bet is involved in illicit affairs with businessman Van Santen. To tighten bonds even further, Bet arranges a marriage between her handsome daughter Jans and the businessman's wacky son Hannes. Jans, however, is in love with tough sailor Ko. Based on the succesful Dutch stage musical by Herman Bouber.

Somewhere in the Netherlands
Mobilization on the brink of the Second World War divides a husband and wife. When lawyer Frans van Loon is called up to join the mine clearance service he doesn't want to worry his wife and keeps it from her. His secretiveness leads her to believe he doesn't love her anymore. She subsequently falls for the charms of an actor. When Frans finds out, a violent quarrel ensues.

De big van het regiment
Diary fragments tell of the arrival of Belgian refugees across the Dutch border in winter 1915. Reserve lieutenant Berkhage returns from the Belgian border with a refugee child. Named "Big" by the company the kid soon becomes the regimental darling.

When shaving cream seller Lou Helm is spotted by Anita Mara of the Odeon Revue, who thinks he was born to be a music hall star, he eagerly signs a contract and leaves his girlfriend Annie. His star career, however, does not turn out the way he planned...
