Gaby Morlay (born Blanche Pauline Fumoleau; 8 June 1893 – 4 July 1964) was a film actress from France. Morlay began acting in the era of silent films, and became known as co-star with Max Linder in his "Max" series. She starred in a series of "Gaby" films such as Gaby en auto (1917) and more than 20 other silent films. She moved easily into talking films in the early 1930s. She played Queen Victoria in the 1939 historical film Entente cordiale. She had an affair with the government minister Max Bonnafous (1900–75) during World War II, and as a result, she was investigated for collaboration with the Nazis after the liberation of France. Later she married Bonnafous. Morlay continued to play important roles in the 1940s and 1950s. Behind the Facade
In the elevator of two large Parisian buildings, a telegraph operator discovers the body of an elderly woman, Madame Mathieu, the owner of both buildings. Boucheron, the local superintendent, is dispatched to investigate, along with his rival, Inspector Lambert of the "Sûreté". To solve the enigma, they scour staircases and corridors, visiting every floor of both buildings, courtyard and facade. Their gruff rivalry allows them to complement each other in discovering who committed the crime among a gallery of characters, humble or rich, who all have something to be ashamed of... The Ragpickers of Emmaus
The Emmaüs community opened and functioned thanks to the generous impetus of Abbé Pierre Groues, bringing together a cross-section of the underprivileged: unemployed truck drivers, former paratroopers, young people leaving prison, etc., and underprivileged families. The "ragpickers" manage to make a bit of money by practicing the art of "chine", while the abbé tries his hand at winning radio games.
