Shukshin's Stories

Each of the short stories is based on either one or several stories by a wonderful Russian writer. The heroes are ordinary people “of the people”, contemporaries of Shukshin, all of whose life’s ups and downs are inextricably linked with their country - the Soviet Union of the 60s-70s. The main thing that unites both the works themselves and the films made is a whole gallery of the brightest images and characters, a story about such different destinies and differently meaningful lives, a story in the center of which is invariably Man, with his love, quests, weaknesses and victories.

The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed

After WWII is over, a young officer Volodya Sharapov returns to Moscow to work in MUR - Moskovskiy Ugolovny Rozysk (Moscow Criminal Police). There he meets Gleb Zheglov who is a chief of a squad which fights organized crime. Their main task is to track down a gang "Chernaya Koshka" (Black Cat) which terrorizes the city. Also, they have to find out who murdered Larisa Gruzdeva. Zheglov believes it was her husband Ivan Gruzdev, but Sharapov has his doubts about it...

The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed

Summer of 1945. The salute of the Great Victory died down and the country is gradually returning to peaceful life. From "fire yes into the fire" a young reconnaissance commander Volodya Sharapov falls, having come to the MUR for distribution, to the department for combating banditry. In the city the Black Cat gang rages, terrifying Muscovites. Captain Gleb Zheglov enters the fray with the bandits, for whom Sharapov soon becomes his right hand.

After leaving the hospital, Sergeant Katsuba, who has bid farewell to frontline service, travels to a provincial town to teach military science to cadets. However, his relationship with the 17-year-old boys does not go well: they consider their instructor to be unfair and overly critical...

Last Hunt

1920s. A schooner manned by foreign pirates reaches the coast of Northern Ocean near Russian Eastern Siberian Community that cheaply buys expensive furs and gold from locals.

The Day Ahead

Two brothers grew up in different places: one in the village, with his mother, the other in the city, with an aunt. The first is independent, hardworking, reliable, while the other is spoiled, on his own mind. The brothers met and realized that if they want to remain family people, they need to learn to understand and take care of each other anew.
