Known For

SubBerlin - Underground United
The original Tresor was in many ways the quintessential Berlin club: located in an unrenovated vault beneath a bombed out department store, it opened its doors amidst the general confusion and ecstasy that swept across the city when the wall fell. Its low ceilings, industrial decor and generally unhinged atmosphere created an unprecedented platform not only for techno in Berlin, but also for the scene taking shape across the Atlantic in Detroit.

Never Stop - A Music That Resists
Featuring the pioneers of techno music Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Carl Craig, and Jeff Mills, Never Stop takes us into the fascinating universe of techno labels in Detroit. This film highlights the deep roots of the creation, more than thirty years ago, by each of the African-American pioneers of techno music, of their own record labels.

Man From Tomorrow
The film is by Jacqueline Caux, a French director whose work often touches on experimenters in modern and contemporary music, including the 2007 Detroit techno documentary The Cycles Of The Mental Machine. According to the press release, her latest film is less a straightforward profile of the inventive Detroiter than an impressionistic piece that draws on the mood and thematic underpinnings of his work. Man From Tomorrow is divided into two parts: the first part sets images to Mills' exclusive score for the film and features no dialog, and the second uses quotes pulled from interviews the director conducted with him. The director says there's no straightforward narrative or message in the film, though we should expect lots of the sci-fi futurism we've come to expect from Mills; as she puts it, "I wanted to give free reign to the viewer’s subjective impressions and physical sensations."

The Adults in the Room
A hybrid documentary exploring the filmmaker's relationship with an older man during his teen years and his efforts in the present to turn those events into a narrative film.

Exhibitionist
Exhibitionist captures legendary Detroit DJ and producer Jeff Mills as he mixes a selection of techno/house tunes on his three-deck setup, providing a close look at his skill and technique. A black backdrop behind Mills was used so that the reprogramming of this footage in a live setting would not conflict with existing decor. Consists of four parts - Axis Mix, Purpose Maker Mix, Tomorrow Mix, and Exhibitionist Mix.

Universal Techno
This French-produced 1996 documentary is an hour-long piece covering the history of techno music from Detroit to Berlin Sheffield.

Exhibitionist 2
Exhibitionist 2 is a documentary film that explores the art form of deejaying – presenting graphic views of how a DJ manages himself using new technology to create seamless mixes and complex transitions to levels that were thought impossible decades ago. In this second volume, Jeff Mills delves deeper into the art form to display, not only how he uniquely mixes music, but how he thinks in real time to create and work spontaneously like a musician playing an acoustic instrument or a soloist thinking of rhythms on the fly. This ambitious project captures Mills in close-ups and multi-angles that reveal exactly what a DJ does – programming and playing music for the purpose of dancing.
