Biography
Jiřina Bohdalová is a Czech actress. She began acting in theatre and film at an early age. She was accepted to The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) at her third attempt. She later accepted an offer from Jan Werich to join the actor's troupe at “Divadlo ABC”. From 1967 to present days she is in a permanent engagement at the “Vinohrady Theatre”. Bohdalová has done extensive work as a voice actress, especially, TV characters in various childrens’ stories. She has made numerous appearances in different fairy-tales, short stories, TV films, serials, plays and many programmes of her own. She has won two Czech Lion awards for her roles in Nesmrtelná teta and Fany. She is the mother of actress Simona Stašová. The StB (now defunct Czech state secret police) attempted to blackmail Bohdalová into becoming an informant, but she resisted this effort. After the publication of a register of StB collaborators which included her name she successfully had the error of her inclusion rectified. The Young Lady from the Riverside
The young worker Helena Pokorná and her widowed father are employed in the same factory. The father is spending his holidays at home in Prague and is looking forward to work. Helena is to go to the seaside for a rewarding holiday. On a hot July day, the girl rides to work in a crowded tram. On the embankment, the crowd pushes her out and Helena fails to get into several other cars. Tempted by the river, the girl calls in sick to work. She takes a steamer to Modřany. There she meets a young man who wants to sleep by the river after his night shift. Helena is drawn into the strange pastimes by a group of notorious loafers and water girls.

Concert master Karel Mašek is a drunk, as well as engineer Danda and other regular guests of the pub U Kroců. Mašek returns from the pub in the morning and promises the woman that he will stop drinking. But he failed again, and the orchestra players refuse to play with him. Danda returns home without a bag and goes to Krocs again in the morning, even though he has an important job at work. He has been degraded to subordinate job position, but he refused to admit it at home.

The administration is broken up, the fortune-telling services are sloppy and client satisfaction declines. After hours, however, it is possible to go to the clairvoyant's apartment, where everything is as it used to be.
