Biography
John Salthouse is a British actor and producer. His best-known screen roles are those of Tony in Mike Leigh's Abigail's Party and DI Roy Galloway in The Bill from 1984 to 1987. He is married to the actress Heather Tobias and had previously been a professional footballer until injury had forced him to retire. He had played for Crystal Palace under his birth name of John Lewis in the 1960s, a fact which he drew on in playing the sullen Tony in Abigail's Party.

Enemy at the Door
Enemy At The Door is a British television drama series made by London Weekend Television for ITV. The series was shown between 1978 and 1980 and dealt with the German occupation of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, during the Second World War. The programme generated a certain amount of criticism in Guernsey, particularly for being obviously filmed on Jersey despite being ostensibly set on Guernsey. The series also marked the TV debut of Anthony Head as a member of the island resistance. The theme music was by Wilfred Josephs.

A Bridge Too Far
The story of Operation Market Garden—a failed attempt by the allies in the latter stages of WWII to end the war quickly by securing three bridges in Holland allowing access over the Rhine into Germany. A combination of poor allied intelligence and the presence of two crack German panzer divisions meant that the final part of this operation (the bridge in Arnhem over the Rhine) was doomed to failure.
