Three stories from Shiratsuna Island: "Mikan no hana" Shiratsuna Island is the only remaining island city in Japan, but it is being merged with a city on the opposite shore. Housewife Misato Tomita lives on the island. "Umi no hoshi" Yōhei Hamasaki, who was born on Shiratsuna Island, lives in an apartment in the outskirts of Tokyo with his wife, Tomomi, and their son, Taichi. A press conference is held by a large electrical manufacturer. The press conference discusses improper accounting by the company of 150 billion yen. The Incident
A dead body is found in a storage area. The victim is a woman in her 20's, who ran a small restaurant. Soon after, a 19-year-old man is arrested for murder and abandonment of corpse. Lawyer Daisaburo Kikuchi, who used to be a judge, takes the young man’s case as his lawyer. The case seems to be clear cut, because the man confessed to the crimes. But, things soon change. The man denies the charges at his trial. Lawyer Daisaburo Kikuchi investigates and he soon faces the truth behind the case.
Castle Under Fiery Skies

The castle named Azuchi Castle will be built near water and high enough to be seen from the capital city of Kyoto. Director Mitsutoshi Tanaka's adaptation of Kenichi Yamamoto's novel of the same name received the 33rd Japan Academy Film Prize for Excellent Art Direction.

Over Time

The Choice of Hercules
When radicals from Japan's Red Army took a woman hostage in the resort town of Karuizawa, Nagano in 1972, Officer Atsuyuki Sassa was put in charge of diffusing the situation. But the task had its challenges. Upon arriving in mountainous Nagano, Sassa had to compete with freezing winter temperatures, conflicting opinions between the Tokyo Metropolitan Police and the Nagano Prefectural Police, as well as public opinion to gain entrance to the lodge that held the single woman captive.
