Egg Nogg
Following the emotions associated with entrance examinations to the faculty of pedagogy, Catherine Solska returns to his native village. And here she will surprise - the family without their knowledge to begin preparations for engagement with a rich neighbor Kolasa. Girl falls into despair, tries to oppose the decision of the parents, but is closed in his room. On visits to her fiance and flees out the window calling mail to the university. Receives misleading information and is convinced that was not accepted to college. Resigned returns home and agrees to the wedding. Meanwhile, on the eve of the wedding the postman brings the notice of acceptance to the university.

The Wedding
Set at the turn of the century, the story concerns a Polish poet living in Cracow who has decided to marry a peasant girl. The wedding is attended by a heterogenous group of people from all strata of Polish society, who dance, get drunk and lament Poland's 100-year-long division under Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The bridegroom, a painter friend, and a journalist each in turn is confronted with spectres of Polish past.

Cudzoziemka
Róża is a young girl who dreams of playing the violin. She leaves for Warsaw, where she intends to study music. There she meets Michał, with whom she falls madly in love. She follows him to St. Petersburg. However, Michał no longer wants to see Róża. The girl returns to Warsaw. However, she cannot find her place there. Her enormous talent has been wasted, and she has married a man she does not love. The woman broke down after the death of her beloved son. She rejected her daughter, who turned out to be musically talented. Róża decides to help her make a career. However, she is very unhappy in her life.
