Biography
Mathieu Carrière (born August 2, 1950 in Hanover, Germany) is a German actor. Carrière grew up in Berlin and Lübeck; he attended the Jesuit boarding school Lycée Saint-François-Xavier in Vannes, France, a school which had previously been attended by the director of Carrière's first major film, Volker Schlöndorff. In 1969 Carrière moved to Paris to study philosophy and continue his acting. Carrière is also a director and a writer and is known to fight for the rights of fathers. His sister Mareike Carrière is also a well known actor. After playing the young Tonio at the age of 13 in Rolf Thiele's 1964 film Tonio Kröger, he played a main part in the 1966 German movie Der junge Törless (Young Törless). In 1980, he was a member of the jury at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival. When Ben is 25 years old he decides to set off in search of his true parents. In Casablanca he meets French crook Jacquot, who takes him with him to Monte Carlo. They both actually manage to find Ben's mother Christine. She tells Ben that his father was a scientist on a secret mission to Africa. Christine wants Ben to stay in Monte Carlo and take over her firm, but Ben has his heart set on living in Belem with his adored Amina. But now Ben gradually unearths a dreadful secret: Christine's second husband François was responsible for the death of his father, who had discovered valuable minerals in the Sahara. After a bitter struggle, Ben finally succeeds in saving his homeland from Western greed.

Die Kommissarin
Die Kommissarin is a German police TV series which aired on Das Erste. Its 66 episodes ran from 1994 till 2006. The series, which takes place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is notable as being the first, and as yet one of the few commercially successful, German detective series to have a female lead character. The main character is Inspector Lea Sommer, played by Hannelore Elsner. Sommer is divorced with custody of her teenage son, Daniel. She is looking forward to a new relationship with her new boyfriend, Jonathan. Although Lea and Jonathan telephone each other frequently, he has never actually been seen or heard on screen. Sommer was originally paired with Nick Siegel, but in a 1996 episode, Siegel was shot to death by an escaping criminal. His last words were "Lea, ich fühle mich so kalt". Sommer's current partner officer is Jan Orlop. Die Kommissarin airs on the German Language channel German Kino Plus in the United States. In Finland it airs on YLE TV2 under the title Etsivä Lea Sommer.

In 1909, Karl Siebrecht, who has just become an orphan, arrives in Berlin. The 16-year-old is eager to conquer the city for himself in just a few weeks. His path is characterized by small successes and setbacks. Only later does he make his breakthrough by founding a luggage transportation company. But once again, his success was short-lived as his business partner booted him out. Karl Siebrecht is faced with the ruins of his company. But he does not give up, finds new ways and seems to have achieved another breakthrough. But then the First World War breaks out...
