The Shield and the Sword
The year is 1940 and Nazi Germany is at the height of its military prowess, having captured most of Europe and eyeing the Soviet Union to the East. The Russian military command suspects hostile intent from Germany and so arranges for its spies to infiltrate ranks of the German military and the SS. Alexander Belov is a Russian spy, who travels from Soviet-held Latvia to Nazi Germany under an alias of Johann Weiss. His mastery of the German language, steel nerves and an ability to manipulate others help him to use his connections in the SS to ascend the ladder of the German intelligence. He uses his position to identify sympathetic Germans, who help him to procure vital intelligence, and to help local resistance movements in their collective fight against Nazism.

Suburban Districts
In the late 1920s Jewish girl Dora falls in love with a young Russian Komsomol member. His parents,who are captive to religious superstitions, don't like Dora. She still goes to live with him and will find herself facing those superstitions in her husband home too.

Two Days
The Red Army enters the city, while the White Army leaves it. There are only two people in the landlord’s estate, an old doorkeeper and a grammar school student, the landlord’s son. The house is taken by the Red Army detachment, and the doorkeeper’s son Andrii, a Bolshevik, is among them. The old man does not share his beloved son’s views and protects the landlord’s son hiding him in the attic.

Catching Up with Destiny
Ostap Mandryka, a serf who has provoked the bar's anger by his behavior, flees from imminent reprisals to Bulgaria, where he is wounded while crossing the border. Together with other fugitives he wanders in foreign lands and finally returns to Russia. The movie has not been preserved.

Fresh Wind

Forest Man
The first years of industrialisation. Disguised as a hunter, an ex-White officer Poloz, who is connected to the international intelligence, is hiding in the forest where the construction of a new power station has begun. An intern making photos of the buildings suddenly notices Poloz. Frightened to be exposed, Poloz kills the guy and makes a cut in the base of the scaffolding of the main building of the power station. In face of a failure, counting on his ex-wife Katia’s help, Poloz kidnaps a 10-year-old boy. Hrai, an engineer and the father of the kidnapped boy, finds Poloz’s hiding place in the forest, and his assistant Varrava shoots the White officer at that very moment when he tries to explode the main building of the power station. The film is lost.
