Peter Merz is used to getting what he wants: this time, too, business success is as good as certain: the Japanese investors with whose help he wants to build a factory in Dresden will eat out of his hand. The beautiful and no less tenacious competitor Teamarianne, who is always one step ahead of him in all his endeavors, gets in his way. The Brunners are an average German family: 46-year-old electrician Arndt, his 45-year-old wife Mai, their 14-year-old son Ben, and Mai's 18-year-old daughter Paulina, whom Arndt adopted when she was one year old.
