The True Nature of Bernadette
Bernadette has a yen to chuck it all and go back to nature, in this French-language Canadian film. That's just what she does after carefully leaving her wedding ring where her affluent husband, a lawyer, can see it. She has bought a farm, complete with a run-down farmhouse and a live-in cranky old man. Soon, because of the wonderful effects that her sympathy and her outsider's perspective have, her neighbors perceive great improvements in their lives. They attribute these changes to something miraculous (perhaps taking a cue from her name), and hordes of needy people descend on her farm.

L'exil
Summoned by his bosses to broadcast only neutral information, Jean, a reporter, leaves town with his friend to go and collect testimonies from simple people, in the heart of the Laurentians, and reach out to them and outside society at genuine freedom, happiness. The departure is joyous, but the isolation in which they confine themselves does not bring either of them the results they expected. The adventure ends in failure. Would it be an illusion to believe that one can escape the community to which one belongs?
Before the Time Comes
Hélène is a woman who already has, in her view, quite enough children. For some time she has secretly been taking birth control pills, but now she is too old to use them safely. When her husband Gabriel discovers the pills, he is distressed, since he wants a large family. The two of them discuss their differing attitudes and desires but come to no resolution.
