Restaurant owner Kenji Nagata has been stabbed to death. When the police begin an investigation, a bag of human bones is discovered in Nagata's car and Detective Kajikawa asks anthropologist Kumiko Misaki to perform an examination. She discovers that the deceased was a man in his mid-twenties and that he died more than 15 years ago. Meanwhile, suspicion for Nagata's murder falls on his apprentice chef Ryohei Miyamura due to the murder weapon being a kitchen knife. Afterwards, Miyamura breaks into Kumiko's lab, but manages to escape...

When SAT succeeds their authority strengthens. Ichigo (Osamu Mukai) is a member of NPS. He is a former boxer, but became a police officer at the age of 23. In his second year as a police officer, he was scouted by the NPS. His strength is hand to hand combat at close range. He is also blunt with strangers. Iori (Gou Ayano) is a member of SAT. He is the best shooter in the group and possesses a calm and steady personality. Ichigo and Iori, with their different personalities, find themselves having constant conflicts.

In 1980, Ayuko is a new transfer student in Okayama from Tokyo. She doesn't have any friends and relies on her boyfriend Hideo who is a college student. Ayuko likes to draw a romance manga of herself and her boyfriend. Ayuko's classmate, Takemi, becomes a huge fan of Ayuko's manga and they become close friends. Due to an incident though, they drift apart. 30 years later, Ayuko is now a manga artist and comes back to Okayama to give a lecture at her former high school. There, Ayuko meets Takemi who is now a teacher.
