A hundred years ago, long-distance travel became popular and a social event instead of being expeditions as before. The new feeling of wanderlust arises. The five-part series depicts a journey around the globe with previously unreleased film footage from the 1920's and 1930's, photographs by onboard photographers, and travel writer's notes.

1. From Leningrad via India to Japan

The episode initially follows world travelers to the 20's Soviet Union. We continue via India to Japan. An amazing, moving and authentic look at the world 100 years ago.

2. From San Francisco via Miami to New York

A country that had many tourist offers 100 years ago that we still know today. A journey through the USA, in a time between economic crisis and „boom“, with big differences between the industrialized North and the South.

3. From Mexico to Cuba to Rio

In this episode, the journey goes from Mexico via the Caribbean to the Panama Canal: one of the most important waterways in the world even back then, just over 10 years old. We continue across the Andes by train or ship around the continent to Rio, which was probably the most beautiful port city in the world back then.

4. From Tenerife via Africa to Istanbul

The episode traces a journey from Tenerife along the North African coast: a surprising view of the French colonies. It continues through Central and South Africa via the Suez Canal and Palestine to Istanbul.

5. From Le Havre via Venice to the North Cape

This episode shows a journey from Le Havre via Venice through Europe: travel in luxury trains, gondola rides in Venice and a visit to a „lobe camp“ were already an integral part of the tourist program 100 years ago.
