Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer returns to her Southern roots this summer in the new home cooking competition Family Recipe Showdown. Set in New Orleans, the series features Octavia as the host, alongside Southern cooking royalty Edgar “Dook” Chase as the resident expert.

Octavia and Dook open the kitchen to three teams of Southern families for a down-home showdown. In the first round, an aunt and niece, mother-in-law and son-in-law and wife duo serve up their best Southern brunch. In the second round, the final two teams put their own spin on one of guest judge Reese Witherspoon's childhood favorites to win $10,000.
2. Biscuit Bliss
Octavia Spencer and expert judge Edgar Dook Chase invite the home cooks to make their family's version of a Southern staple, biscuits; the two final teams take on guest judges Al and Leila Roker's family favorite desserts for a chance at $10,000.
3. Southern Cocktail Hour
Octavia Spencer and expert judge Edgar "Dook" Chase challenge the home cooks to make three cocktail bites alongside a signature cocktail. Then, the remaining teams put their spin on either guest Eric Stonestreet or Octavia's childhood comfort meal.
4. Team Tailgate
Octavia Spencer and judge Edgar "Dook" Chase challenge the home cooks to present their best handheld tailgate specialties; the two remaining teams prepare one of guest judge Danielle Brooks' family favorite dishes to win the $10,000 prize.
5. Catch of the South
Octavia Spencer and expert judge Edgar "Dook" Chase welcome three teams of family home cooks to create Southern seafood specialties; two teams move on to round two, where they create their version of guest judge Kandi Burrus' family favorite.
6. Cast-Iron Secrets
Host Octavia Spencer and Edgar "Dook" Chase ask the teams to make their best cast-iron dishes; in round two, the competitors take on guest judge Tina Knowles' family favorite recipes to win the $10,000 prize.
7. Peas, Greens and Superstitions
Octavia Spencer and Edgar Dook Chase ask three teams of home cooks to create a dish based on family superstitions; in the second round, the remaining teams create a Southern vegan dish for guest judge Jessica Chastain.
8. Southern Fried and Some Sides
