Hollywood Beat
Hollywood Beat is a mid-1980s American television police drama starring Jack Scalia, Jay Acovone, Edward Winter, and John Matuszak. The series aired Saturday night at 8:00 p.m Eastern time. A pair of undercover cops, Nick McCarren (Jack Scalia) and Jack Rado (Jay Acovone) cruise the filthy, neon-lit streets of Hollywood, looking for crime in all the right places as rock music blares in the background.
Seasons
1. Pilot
McCarren and Rado may be cops, but they have a soft spot for Hollywood's shady characters. There's a caped eccentric named Captain Crusader and a lovable bag lady known as Lady Di. This is a place where prostitutes possess hearts of gold and the police sport perfect teeth. Their supervisor, Capt. Biddle (Edward Winter), is a strict martinet who often critiques their methods. However, they have the support of George Grinsky, an openly gay former football star who runs a rundown diner called “La Cage aux Grease." McCarren and Rado are on the trail of a dangerous individual targeting the street community. The homeless are being beaten and burned, prostitutes are turning up dead, and tensions are rising.
2. King of Diamonds
Gideon King, a washed-out private detective, witnesses a jewelry store robbery; the robbers stash the loot in the trunk of a car, then flee in a second vehicle.
3. Double Exposure
What started as an attempt to catch a graffiti artist gets a gipsy's curse thrown on it and turns into a murder investigation when a photographer drops out of the sky onto the hood of Rado's car.
4. No Place to Hide
The undercover detectives try to protect a woman from a robbery accomplice she has "fingered” as a killer.
5. Across the Line
Rado is haunted by an unsolved murder case, whose memories are triggered as he and McCarren track a notorious drug dealer to Beverly Hills.
6. Baby Blues
An AWOL Marine gets sympathy from McCarren despite or even because of the attentions of a couple of MPs trying to bring him in. Not to mention a missing girlfriend.
7. The Long Weekend
Protecting a witness in a trial of an underworld boss, McCarren and Rado begin to suspect corruption in high places. A redhead and a devoted mother are a bundle of trouble for detectives McCarren and Rado, who are on an assignment to protect a witness who will testify against an underworld figure.
8. Fast Hustle
Information can be bought on the waterfront, though such information can be dangerous indeed to the man who holds it.
9. Siege
A motorcycle gang lays siege on the Hollywood police station and demands the release of gang leader Tito's brother, who is in prison for murder.
10. Let's Have Lunch
One should never plan a vacation in Captain Biddle's hearing an open invitation to a particularly dangerous assignment. Special guest star Leigh McCloskey acts as Eddie Cooper who makes Nick and Jack lose their holiday. After solving a tricky case involving an armed gunman, the undercover cops feel they want to get away from it all. However, Captain Biddle now assigns them the task of acting as bodyguards for Eddie.
11. Dead Heat
Breaking up a high-stakes poker game, McCarren and Rado flush out an undercover cop— and a lead to a counterfeiting ring.
12. Girls, Girls, Girls
Two young Texans go on a crime spree in Hollywood. As though their complicated love-lives were not trouble enough, McCarren and Radio are bedeviled by a pair of reckless thugs from Texas with a hankering for notoriety.
13. Connections
Officers McCarren and Rado pursue a pair of renegade drug enforcement officers. Rado and McCarren help a young model and her brother who have become embroiled in drug dealing. A powerful kingpin wants them for a package they carry.
14. Out in the Cold
CIA, KGB, and a couple of honest-to-goodness cops add up to trouble for Rado and McCarren — indeed, red faces abound. So who's the double agent, and what about the Internal Revenue claim for back taxes?
