An old woman's possessions are auctioned, and orchestral conductor Timothy Clare and his family move into her large, though rather gloomy and dilapidated, old house in Bristol. It soon becomes clear that this is a house full of secrets, and that Mrs. Betterton had good reason to leave with her young granddaughter, the ethereal, otherworldly Emily; after a series of frightening experiences and disturbing discoveries - including a walled-up room containing a skeleton - the Clares realise that they are not the only occupants.

1. Episode 1

The Clare family moves into a fine, if rather dilapidated, old house in Bristol. Its previous owner, Mrs. Betterton, was clearly in a hurry to leave. The Clares are wondering why.

2. Episode 2

Despite several strange experiences, the Clare family are beginning to settle into their new home. A stranger calls and seems anxious to look around...

3. Episode 3

Sheila Clare reluctantly admits that the terrifying incidents in the house are caused by a Poltergeist. Timothy finds himself compelled to repeat a tune on the piano, and the Clares' American dinner-party guests soon become involved in the strange occurrences...

4. Episode 4

Sheila Clare is concerned for the well-being of her children as the hauting of the family home continues. The youngsters, however, seem to be finding it all very exciting - and Stephen and Ben decide to take matters into their own hands.

5. Episode 5

When Milton Guest witnesses the ghost of a soldier, he proposes a special ritual to enable the troubled spirit to find peace.

6. Episode 6

Milton Guest continues his ritual to try to lay the ghosts of the house to rest. The Clares feel that their home is at peace once more. The Story of the ghosts has attracted attention, and Stephen and Ben find themselves making a television appearance...
