The Great Detective is a Canadian television drama, which aired on CBC from 1979 to 1982. It starred Douglas Campbell and James Dugan.

Alistair Cameron comes from Scotland to Canada when his niece is orphaned. When a magician is killed, Cameron solves the case. He is rewarded by a commission as the first provisional detective in the country, and he is persuaded to stay.

Conflict has broken out, resulting in the death of a white settler. The "Indians" are suspected, but the Inspector keeps an open mind.

Inspector Alastair Cameron investigates several theatrical murder cases which involve a dwarf, an orchestra leader, and an aging soprano.
